ChatGPT rival startup Anthropic is raising another $300 million at a valuation of $4.1 billion.

It’s been just over a month since Google invested in San Francisco-based AI startup Anthropic. And now we’re seeing another round of $300 million at a valuation of $4.1 billion.

Spark Capital is reportedly leading the round.

The Financial Times reported that the deal last month gave Google a 10% stake in the company, and came just two weeks after it was revealed that Microsoft’s massive $10 billion investment in OpenAI.

Anthropic’s AI chatbot, Claude, is in closed beta mode, but a document detailing its goals suggests that it will fight harmful cues by explaining why they are dangerous or wrong.

Before this year’s massive fundraising, Anthropic, which reportedly had limited revenue, raised $704 million in Series A and Series B in 2022.

Series B was led by none other than the founder of the infamous FTX exchange, Sam Bankman-Fried.

Is AI a trend or something you can’t do without?
The new funding once again demonstrates investors’ huge appetite for all things artificial intelligence. This week alone, hundreds of millions of dollars in investments have gone into AI startups.

On Tuesday, Salesforce’s venture capital arm, Salesforce Ventures, launched a new $250 million generative AI fund that will look at promising generative AI startups. The company announced at TrailblazerDX that it will initially invest in four AI companies — Anthropic, Cohere, Hearth.AI and You.com.

On the same day, New York-based AI startup Amelia, which specializes in conversational artificial intelligence, raised a $175 million investment led by BuildGroup and Monroe Capital.

New York-based Humane, which plans to launch a product that incorporates artificial intelligence into a consumer device and is partnering with OpenAI, has raised $100 million.
