AlphaSense startup raises an additional $100 million in Series D funding from CapitalG and Alphabet

The main investors were CapitalG and Alphabet’s independent growth fund, as well as the growth investment arm of Goldman Sachs Asset Management and Viking Global Investors.

The company was valued at $1.8 billion based on the amount raised.

The New York-based startup created a platform for analyzing and finding information in the market using artificial intelligence and natural language processing to help clients shape corporate and investment strategies.

Google and Ai

Although CapitalG is an independent growth fund under the Alphabet umbrella, Google and its parent company have certainly shown significant interest in the field of AI. In February, Google unveiled its conversational AI tool Bard, which it plans to integrate into many of its products, including its dominant search engine.

Earlier this year, Google also invested $300 million to $400 million in San Francisco-based Anthropic, a ChatGPT competitor.

The AI hype

Of course, this is far from the only AI-powered company that has raised big money.
Just last month, Character.ai closed a $150 million Series A with a $1 billion valuation led by Andreessen Horowitz. The Palo Alto, California-based AI startup lets people create their own personalized AI chatbots using language models and deep learning algorithms.

Also in March, San Francisco-based Adept AI raised $350 million in a Series B — reportedly valuing at least $1 billion after the offering.

Anthropic is reportedly raising another $300 million round at a pre-investment valuation of $4.1 billion. Spark Capital is reportedly taking the lead in this round.

But it all started in January when it became known about Microsoft’s massive $10 billion investment in OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT.
